Today was the first day of 3rd grade for Brianna. I was rousted awake this morning at 5:40 by doors opening in the hall. I figured it was Delaney waking herself up to go potty or something. I walked out into the hall to find two bright eyed and bushy tailed children, fully dressed and ready to go…including shoes! At least we weren’t rushing around. Tomorrow morning will be a totally different story though.
Our Visit to Historic Camden
I took the girls to the “festivities” at the Historic Camden Revolutionary War site for the Battle of Camden Remembrance Day (actual battle was August 16, 1780). Brianna didn’t want to go at first – “Why can’t I stay home with Daddy?!” But, once we got there, she had a great time looking at all the houses and buildings of the period and playing some games the kids “back then” played. I had to drag her away when it was time to go. Fortunately, she will get to go back for a school field trip in a few months. Plus, I told her we could go back and walk the nature trail another time. She wanted to do that earlier, but by the time the reenactment was over, it was just too hot and muggy for my taste.
Trying to Get Back in the Groove
After WAY too long of doing NOTHING, I’m trying to get back in some sort or “working out” groove. I’ve been taking the dog for a walk (about a mile and a half) 5 out of the last 6 nights. The girls have gone with me all but last night. Brianna rides her bike and Delaney sits in her stroller. Sometimes one of the neighbors and her little girl walk with us. Delaney really loves that because she’s got someone close to her age sitting in a stroller right next to her she can “talk” to and pass toys back and forth.
Brianna has been getting a lot more reading done this past week – but only because she lost her DS. Literally lost it. She took it to the library – after I specifically told her NOT to – and it apparently fell out of the truck in the parking lot and, of course, whoever found it probably kept it.
Anyway, she’s about halfway through the 3rd Harry Potter book. She read the first one last month and the 2nd one last week. She’s really enjoying them.
The Girls Singing Happy Birthday to Grandpa
Here are two videos of the girls singing Happy Birthday to my dad.
Random Stuff
I have several things to catch up on.
Delaney’s refused having the potty seat sitting on the “big potty”, preferring to balance herself on the big seat by herself. She’s also has been trying to go potty by herself the past couple of days. We also had a poop in the potty again yesterday! (Unfortunately not so for today.) She’s still having pee accidents every so often, but that’s usually when I’m not paying a lot of attention. She had an accident this morning, but it was in the bathroom floor when she was trying to get to the potty by herself. At least that’s easy to clean up!
School registration is in 2 weeks. I’ll be at the school all day, volunteering at the PTA booth. 34 days until school starts and some resemblance to routine returns to the household. Unfortunately for me that also means I’ll be getting up early again. No more sleeping until 8:30!
Brianna read the first Harry Potter book this past week. She really enjoyed it and is looking forward to reading the next book. We let her watch the first movie the other day. I wasn’t upstairs when she was watching it, but JR was. He said she was talking about the book the whole time…”that happened in Chapter 2″ “that happened in Chapter 5″, etc. There was a lot of stuff that was left out of the movie, but thankfully we explained to her ahead of time about how they would have to leave stuff out, otherwise the movie would be a mini-series.
JR bought some Steelers stickers and added them to his motorcycle. I’ll post some pictures when he gets back. He took Brianna to go for a ride and buy her some new shoes and himself a holster for his backup weapon.
Delaney update 7-2-09
For some reason, Delaney has started calling her poop “turtle”. I don’t have the slightest idea where she got that from. But, now when she poops, instead of saying she has “yuckies” like she used to, now she says she has “turtle”. And, of course, she always makes “turtles” in her panties and NOT on the potty.
She is doing great with peeing on the potty and staying dry during nap time. Although, last night, for some strange reason, she was sitting on the futon upstairs and peed…but didn’t say a word…she just sat in it, for who knows how long, until I picked her up to take her downstairs to get ready for bed. I was NOT happy. I poured a bunch of vinegar on the spot. (That reminds me, I need to add vinegar to the shopping list.) Hopefully it won’t stink.
Anyway, like I said, in general, she’s doing great with keeping dry during the day. She’s even been dry for about 5 nights this past week. Tonight she REFUSED to wear the “backup diaper” (the diaper I put on over her panties at night). So, I made it quite clear to her that she was NOT to pee in the bed. The other night she woke herself up at midnight to pee on the potty, so I know she’s capable. I’m crossing my fingers to see how it goes.
Delaney wakes up to go potty
I’m totally dragging this morning! Glad I don’t have anything “pressing” early this morning. Delaney woke up at midnight and took herself to the potty (YAY) and of course there was a big ruckus in the house over it! Unfortunately, it was hard to fall asleep after that! She was dry again when she woke up this morning too…that’s about 4 mornings out of the past week.
She’s been dry most of the time during the day lately. She’s even started taking herself to the potty sometimes instead of me having to prompt her all the time.
We’ve ventured out in public a few times without a diaper. Most of the time I make sure she’s got the plastic training pants covers over top of her thick training panties. The last time we went out to the library (Monday), I did just per her “Dora” panties on her and leave it at that. I knew we were only going to be gone about an hour and she went to the potty right before we left, so I felt pretty confident. She did great!
Potty Training Progress
I’m hoping I don’t jinx anything, but at this point, Delaney is doing pretty well with her potty training. (But I’m not ready to take her out in public yet without a diaper on by any means!) Brianna got up with her this morning and put underwear on her. She stayed dry while I got myself showered and dressed and made “big breakfast”. About 2 1/2 hours after she got up (I heard them get up even though I didn’t get out of bed right away) I had her sit on the potty. She peed. I think she may be getting the hang of controlling her bladder muscles and “releasing” when she sits on the toilet. I know it’s a process and it will take a little getting used to for her. For instance, last night she said she needed to go potty and was even doing the “bounce” thing. So, I ran her really fast to the potty. She sat on it for 15 minutes and … nothing. So, she got up and about 15 minutes later I had a mess to clean up! But, she’s making an honest effort, and I know she’s really trying to “get it”.
Making me a Meal
Delaney has always liked playing with the toy kitchen we have for her upstairs. But today she seems to be really “into” it. She’s mixing, pouring, adding pepper, pouring coffee, and just being a generally great hostess! It’s so cute!
She Pooped in the Potty!
This morning, Delaney sat on the little potty we keep in the living room and started talking about poop. So, I asked her if she needed to poop in the potty. I ask her this often when she starts to talk about poop, so, I was expecting the same answer I always get, which is “no”. Well, not this time! She said she did need to poop in the potty and started trying to take her shorts off, so I assisted with her shorts and diaper. She proceeded to sit down and attempt to poop. (ALERT!!! GRAPHIC INFO AHEAD!) She said “it’s stuck” and yep, there was a very tiny piece of poo stuck between ther butt cheeks. A tiny push later I heard the sound of a poo hitting the bottom of her potty! YAY! She said she was done, so we wiped and flushed the poo down the toiled and said “bye bye yucky!” then danced around the living room in joy and called Daddy to tell him what happened.
